Bamberg. Am Kranen pier
bridge Obere Brücke offers a wonderful view of the old pier (map) is here used to moor commercial vessels, the port has been the economic centre of medieval Bamberg. Still in 1156 Frederick I Barbarossa issued a decree that every merchant ship passing through Bamberg, was obliged to stay in the city for three days to offer to sell your goods.
Now this Marina morning where you can walk down Regnitz, to sail along the "Little Venice" - half-timbered houses, leads directly to the water and enjoy the water at the Cathedral of St. Michael.
At the Marina there are two old cranes, which gave the name of this little square - "Am Kranen" - "taps".
I have to think that to turn such mechanisms was not easy.
In front of the promenade you can visit the cafe "Kranen". With outdoor cafe tables offer great views of the Regnitz river, bridges and old town hall.
Until waiting a bus I had a few minutes to run through the street of the Capuchins (Kapuzinerstraße).
Solar timepiece show that it is time for us to go further.
